I don’t currently have any Chase cards but I did create a login for their Chase credit journey site. I’m way over 5/25 so I never looked their way because I assumed I wouldn’t be approved. But when I logged into the site today, it showed I was approved for a few different cards (both Sapphires and a Freedom flex I think) and even showed the CL available if I accepted.
Up to this point I was preparing to climb the Amex ladder (green/gold) because I figured I was too far to consider Chase. The question would be should I put the Amex ladder on pause and get one of the Sapphires or stick the my current plan and see if they’re still available in a few months? Welcome offer on the sapphires were 75k.
Thanks for reading the post
Great data point! If it's a true pre-approval, then I'd personally go for one of the Sapphire cards. Amex can wait since they are typically easy to work with, even if you have some recently opened accounts and/or inquiries.
As of yesterday (3.24.2025), a 100,000-point offer is available in brach for the Chase Sapphire Preferred, and it'll likely be coming online soon. However, I'd imagine the 5/24 Rule will apply as usual. So despite a lower offer of 75K - which is still strong - if I had the opportunity to get the Sapphire Preferred while being "way over 5/24," then I'd take it!
Thanks for the response, Mark. Wanted to add a few screenshots to show what I'm seeing. Also, took a closer look at the terms and even though it shows I'm already "approved", they still have to do a hard pull and review. I think at that point, my 5/24 status will be seen and I might end up getting denied. So for now, I'll think about the hard inquiry and if I decide to give it a go, I'll update on the forum.
Helpful to see all this, thanks. It's frustrating how Chase says "You're already approved" and then follows with terms that say, "this offer is not guaranteed, and in some instances, we may not be able to open an account for you." 😆 Looking at older data points on other sources, approvals / denials may vary.
Where can you see if you are pre approved? Thanks
